Nigerian Army and Security Agencies Arrest 46 Suspected Illegal Immigrants in Ogun State
Ogun State — The Nigerian Army, in coordination with the Department of State Services (DSS), the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC), and the Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS), apprehended 46 suspected illegal immigrants on Thursday.
According to information from the 35 Artillery Brigade, the suspects—a group comprising 36 men and 10 women—were detained across various locations in Ijebu Imushin, Ijebu Ilese, and nearby areas following actionable intelligence.
The group includes 18 individuals from Burkina Faso, 23 from Côte d’Ivoire, four from Togo, and one from Senegal. Preliminary investigations indicate that they had been residing in Ogun State for approximately six months without valid immigration documentation.
Major Idereghi Akari, Assistant Director of Army Public Relations at the 35 Artillery Brigade, stated that during interrogation, the suspects identified themselves as merchants and workers linked to QNet, an online marketing platform engaged in the sale of various commodities.
The arrested individuals have been transferred to the NIS, Ogun State Command, for further investigation and appropriate administrative action.
Brigadier General Friday Onu, Commander of the 35 Artillery Brigade, praised the troops and partner agencies for their professionalism and diligence during the operation. He urged residents to maintain security awareness and report any suspicious activities to the relevant authorities.
This operation highlights the commitment of the Nigerian Army and other security agencies to combat illegal migration and enhance internal security in the region.
