Zamfara State, Nigeria — Troops from Operation Fasan Yamma successfully rescued six individuals who escaped from their captors after a series of military operations in Zamfara State. This information was reported in a military bulletin issued on Monday to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
According to the report, the victims were intercepted by the 1 Brigade Combat Team 6 at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Gwashi, located in the Bukuyyum Local Government Area. They were rescued Friday along the Gwashi-Bukuyyum road after fleeing from a group of armed captors.
The rescue effort was part of an air interdiction operation executed by the Nigerian Air Force, which took place west of Bagega Forest.
The rescued individuals have been identified as Muhammad Sani from Masama, Junaidu Muhammad from Gandun Malam, Abubakar Abdullahi, and Abubakar Barau from Maibaka, along with Surajo Abubakar of Dogon Daji and Nasiru Hakilu from Adabka village, all within the Bukuyyum Local Government Area. Reports indicate that these individuals had been held captive for several months before their escape.
Military officials stated that efforts are underway to reunite the victims with their families and provide them with the necessary support.
This rescue occurs amid heightened military operations targeting terrorist groups that operate in the forests and remote areas of the North-West region. Military authorities have reiterated their commitment to applying pressure on criminal elements until all kidnapped victims are freed and communities are secured.
