‘Endured 11 years of trauma’ – Ex-Petroleum Minister, Diezani speaks after court acquits her

Former Nigerian Minister Acquitted of Bribery Charges in London

Diezani Alison-Madueke, the former Minister of Petroleum Resources for Nigeria, has been acquitted of bribery charges by a London court. The Southwark Crown Court ruled in her favor on Wednesday, dismissing allegations brought by British prosecutors.

Alison-Madueke faced five counts of accepting bribes and one count of conspiracy to commit bribery. In response to the court’s decision, she expressed relief and gratitude, highlighting the emotional toll the legal battle has had on her family and friends over the past 11 years.

“I’m just thankful to God. It’s been arduous, almost 11 years. It’s been traumatic not just for me but for my family, friends, my 93-year-old mother in Port Harcourt, and for my son,” Alison-Madueke stated in an interview with News Central.

She noted that she has resided in the United Kingdom since the legal proceedings commenced. “For almost 11 years, I have been here. I did my job to the best of my ability,” she added.

The outcome marks a significant moment for Alison-Madueke, who has maintained her innocence throughout the legal challenges.
