WHO Reports Over 1,000 Ebola Cases in DRC as Death Toll Hits 254

Ebola Outbreak in Democratic Republic of Congo Exceeds 1,000 Cases
The World Health Organization (WHO) reports over 1,000 confirmed Ebola cases in the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), with the death toll reaching 254. As of now, 100 patients have successfully recovered from the virus.
WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus shared this update via a statement on social media, emphasizing that timely medical intervention can contain the virus. He highlighted collaborative efforts among the WHO, Africa Centres for Disease Control and Prevention, and other partners, which have strengthened emergency health systems in the affected regions.
“The Ebola outbreak has surpassed 1,000 confirmed cases in the DRC, including 254 deaths. However, 100 patients have recovered, illustrating that the virus can be mitigated with prompt healthcare,” Tedros stated.
In the past month, various health agencies have increased their response capacity in conjunction with the DRC Ministry of Health. This includes expanding the number of Ebola Treatment Centers and enhancing laboratory and surveillance capabilities, as well as training more healthcare workers on clinical care and infection prevention.
Despite these measures, Tedros warned that additional resources are essential. “There remains a significant need for more treatment centers, additional trained healthcare workers, increased testing, and community support teams,” he noted.
He also stressed the importance of uninterrupted access to affected populations and stronger international collaboration. “We require sustained and safe access to reach all impacted individuals, and continued solidarity from the international community is necessary to end this outbreak. Ultimately, peace is vital for the people of DRC,” he added.
The WHO underscores the importance of ongoing interventions as health authorities and partners strive to control the outbreak and minimize further loss of life in impacted areas.
