NCDC, US CDC Strengthen Disease Surveillance Capacity In Nigeria –

The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), in collaboration with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the CDC Foundation, the Gates Foundation, and other partners, has enhanced Nigeria’s capabilities in laboratory-based integrated disease surveillance.

As part of this initiative, a Multiplex Bead Assay (MBA) Laboratory has been established at the National Reference Laboratory in Abuja. This facility is designed to improve the nation’s ability to detect and monitor infectious diseases.

Additionally, a team of experts from the U.S. CDC recently conducted a two-week training program at the MBA Laboratory located in the Central Public Health Laboratory in Lagos. The training focused on MBA techniques and included skill transfer in bead coupling technology.

This collaboration aims to position Nigeria as a leading hub for MBA laboratories in West Africa, thereby increasing the country’s capacity to identify and respond to threats posed by infectious diseases.

The initiative highlights the ongoing health security partnership between Nigeria and the United States, as both nations work alongside partners to strengthen regional disease surveillance and enhance safety in West Africa.
