‘We killed her to teach her a lesson’ – Suspected killers of Ogun broadcaster

Ogun Police Arrest Three Suspects in Murder of Retired Broadcaster

ABEOKUTA, Nigeria — The Ogun State Police Command has apprehended three individuals connected to the murder of retired OGTV broadcaster Kitan Oyesiku, widely known as Aunty Kitan. Oyesiku was killed alongside her 38-year-old security guard, Pelumi Adetayo, at her home in the Kobape area of Abeokuta on Saturday.

According to Ogun police spokesperson DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Pelumi’s body was found at his security post, while Oyesiku was discovered face up in her apartment. Authorities reported that Oyesiku’s vehicle, which was initially missing, has since been recovered.

Less than a week after her death, police announced the arrests of Sodeinde Olajuwon Phillip, 22; Sakirudeen Abdulraheem Ayoola, 27; and Sobu Obafunsho, 36. Sodeinde, identified as the principal suspect and a former security guard for Oyesiku, allegedly recruited the others to help carry out the crime.

During a press conference at the police command’s headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, Police Commissioner Bode Ojajuni revealed that Sodeinde had continued to contact Oyesiku for money even after his employment with her ended. He was arrested at a construction site in GRA Ibara.

The commissioner stated that Sodeinde confessed to the murder, claiming it was intended to “teach her a lesson.” He explained that grievances stemming from Sodeinde’s time as a security guard led to the attack.

“An intensive investigation, including intelligence gathering and technical tracking, was launched to identify those responsible and recover the missing vehicle,” Ojajuni noted. “Acting on actionable intelligence, the vehicle was located on June 22, 2026. Although the ignition key had been removed and the registration plates detached, detectives found the registration plate concealed in the vehicle.”

Additionally, a handwritten note, believed to have been left by the perpetrators, was found at the crime scene. Forensic analysis of the note provided crucial leads that helped identify the suspects.

Ojajuni confirmed that subsequent investigations led to the arrests of Ayoola and Obafunsho, bringing all identified suspects into custody. He detailed that the suspects overpowered the security guard to gain access to Oyesiku’s home, where they ultimately attacked both individuals.

Items linked to the investigation, including a broken hammer, a cutlass, and a plank, were recovered from locations associated with the suspects.

The commissioner emphasized that the investigation is ongoing, with all suspects entitled to due process under the law.

In a statement, Wale Olarewaju, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, commended the police for their swift action in resolving the case.
