Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has arrested three individuals following the alleged killing of a 27-year-old man during a violent altercation at a naming ceremony in Dosi Hamlet, Bara Village, within the Kirfi Local Government Area.
Police spokesperson SP Nafiu Habib confirmed the arrests in a statement released on Wednesday. The suspects face charges related to criminal conspiracy, public disturbance, and culpable homicide.
The incident, according to the police, was reported to the Kirfi Divisional Police Headquarters by the officer in charge of the Bara Police Outpost after a complaint was lodged by an 80-year-old resident of Dosi Hamlet on July 1.
Officials stated that the altercation occurred on June 25 around 6:30 PM when youths from Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet clashed with those from Dosi Hamlet during the naming ceremony. The dispute escalated, resulting in the attack of Sani Abacha Alhaji Jabbi, the victim, who was reportedly assaulted with cutlasses.
“Emergency responders rushed the victim to the Federal Medical Centre in Gombe, where he was later pronounced deceased,” the statement noted.
Following the incident, police detectives investigated the scene, gathering evidence that led to the apprehension of three suspects identified as Kano Alhaji Malam, 18, Ali Alhaji Malam, 17, and Shehu Alhaji Malam, 16, all residents of Tudun Sullubawa Hamlet.
The police reported that the deceased has been interred by his family in accordance with Islamic tradition.
Preliminary investigations have concluded, with the case now transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department in Bauchi for further inquiry and prosecution.
Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the violence and urged citizens to refrain from aggressive behavior during social events. He called on community and youth leaders to foster dialogue and cooperation to prevent future incidents in the region.
