ISWAP family members surrender to army troops in Borno

Two individuals, suspected of having ties to the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP), have surrendered to troops of Operation HADIN KAI in the Bama Local Government Area of Borno State. This information was disclosed by security expert Zagazola Makama in a statement on X on Wednesday.

The surrender involved a woman, identified as Mrs. Fatimata Modu, 29, who arrived at the location of the 81 Division Task Force Battalion, part of the 24 Task Force Brigade, accompanied by her two-year-old son, Muhammed Modu. Both individuals are from Yaganari Village within Bama LGA.

Upon their surrender, Mrs. Modu and her child were taken into custody for profiling and documentation, per established operational procedures. Makama noted that preliminary screening has been completed, and further assessments will be conducted by relevant agencies.

“The latest surrender adds to a growing number of insurgents and their family members who have chosen to abandon violence amid ongoing military operations in the North-East,” Makama said.

While the overall security situation in the region remains relatively stable, it is considered unpredictable. Troops are maintaining a heightened level of vigilance and operational readiness.
