FCT: Tinubu’s promises of satellite towns, area councils getting attention fulfilled – Wike
Wike Highlights Infrastructure Development in FCT
The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, announced on Monday that the administration of President Bola Tinubu is making significant progress in fulfilling its commitment to improve connectivity in satellite towns and area councils.
Wike made the remarks during the inauguration of the construction of an access road from Tunga Madaki to the Zuba area, an event intended to coincide with the third anniversary of President Tinubu’s administration.
“We are able to make this progress thanks to the support of the President and the National Assembly,” Wike said. He noted that when they launched the road project from Bill Clinton to Tunga Madaki, they did not anticipate further developments, including the extension to the Abuja-Kaduna highway near Zuba.
Following recent area council elections, Wike mentioned that the new chairman of Zuba approached him with a request to extend the road to enhance accessibility to the community.
“The directive from the President is clear: all communities and satellite towns must be linked to the city. Today’s activities demonstrate our commitment to fulfilling this promise,” he stated.
Wike also praised the Zuba Area Council Chairman for his role in securing the road project, emphasizing the importance of effective leadership in community development. “This is the first time he has been elected as chairman, and he has taken significant steps to address the needs of his constituents,” he remarked.
He further highlighted the challenges faced by local residents, particularly those surrounding the airport who previously had limited access. “When we were planning the second runway, the community requested a direct link to the airport. Now, they can reach the airport directly,” Wike explained.
The minister expressed his belief that the ongoing infrastructure projects are evidence of progress in the FCT. “I hope those who claim nothing is happening can now see the work being done. By December, before the presidential election, we aim to officially open this road,” he concluded.
