Two Nigerians to face trial in Ghana over alleged murder of compatriot
Two Nigerian Nationals Arrested in Alleged Murder Case in Ghana
Two Nigerian nationals are set to face prosecution in Ghana in connection with the alleged murder of a fellow Nigerian. Investigators say the victim was killed following a dispute over proceeds from suspected internet fraud.
The suspects, Daniel Victor Eze and David Oko Ewa, were apprehended by the Northern Regional Police Command after the body of 36-year-old Nkemujika Uzorchuku Eze was discovered in his apartment in Sanzirigu, a suburb of Tamale.
According to a statement from the Ghana Police Service, officers began an investigation after receiving reports that the victim was found lying in a pool of blood in his bedroom. Initial findings indicated that the victim shared a three-bedroom apartment with his wife, Peace Uzorchuku, along with the two suspects and another individual, Godwin Nwafor.
Crime scene investigators reported that the victim sustained a deep cut to his forehead and had a towel forced into his mouth. The room showed evidence of a struggle, and a wooden pestle believed to have been used in the attack was recovered for forensic analysis.
The victim was transported to the Tamale Teaching Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. His body is now being held at the hospital’s mortuary pending an autopsy.
Police operations led to the suspects’ arrest later the same day in Tatale, where they allegedly attempted to flee toward the Ghana-Togo border. During questioning, Eze and Ewa reportedly confessed to conspiring to kill the victim, claiming he had withheld money generated from their suspected internet fraud activities.
A subsequent search reportedly yielded numerous items believed to have been taken from the victim’s apartment, including mobile phones, laptops, a tablet, jewelry, wristwatches, clothing, and personal documents.
The suspects remain in police custody and are expected to be arraigned in court as investigations continue. The Ghana Police Service has stated its commitment to ensuring that all individuals connected to the case are brought to justice and has urged the public to provide credible information to assist with the ongoing investigation.
