Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University Reiterates Commitment to Campus Safety
MAKURDI, Nigeria — Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, located in Benue State, affirmed its commitment to ensuring the safety of students and staff on campus. The institution’s Chief Security Officer, Gbehe Simon Ingbian, announced that individuals engaging in vandalism, theft, or other criminal activities would face arrest and prosecution.
Ingbian made the statement during a meeting with the Director of Information, Protocol, and Public Relations, Funmilayo Augustina Tolufashe. The purpose of the meeting was to enhance collaboration between the Security Unit and the Directorate, aimed at improving security awareness and effectively disseminating security-related information across the university community.
On July 14, 2026, the university’s Security Unit apprehended Victor Dzer, a former student of the Department of Economics, for allegedly vandalizing a component of an air-conditioning unit belonging to the university. Following his arrest, Dzer was handed over to the Nigeria Police Force at ‘E’ Division Makurdi. He ultimately faced prosecution in Magistrate Court 9, where he was convicted and sentenced to one year in prison without the option of a fine.
Ingbian emphasized that this judgment serves as a warning to potential offenders, reinforcing the university’s intolerance for actions that jeopardize safety or damage property. He reiterated the Security Unit’s commitment to increasing surveillance and ensuring that perpetrators of criminal activity are held accountable.
“The goal is to eliminate criminal activities and maintain a safe learning environment,” Ingbian stated.
Responding to the security measures, Tolufashe praised the Security Unit for its professionalism and dedication to protecting lives and university property. She expressed the directorate’s full support for enhanced collaboration, which she believes will further promote public awareness and adherence to university regulations.
Tolufashe urged the university community to remain vigilant, report any suspicious activities, and work together with security personnel to safeguard lives, property, and institutional resources.
