2027: Six Oyo APC guber aspirants reject Alli as guber candidate

Six Oyo APC Gubernatorial Aspirants Reject Party’s Candidate
Six of the eleven aspirants who participated in the All Progressives Congress (APC) primary election in Oyo State have voiced their opposition to the selection of Senator Sharafadeen Alli as the party’s gubernatorial candidate.
The eleven candidates in the primary included Chief Adebayo Adelabu, Dr. Adewale Kareem, Dr. Muyiwa Gbadegesin, Barrister Akeem Agbaje, Engineer Hakeem Alao, Engineer Rauf Olaniyan, Dr. Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Prince Musibau Asanke, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, Mr. Ololade Bakare, and Alli himself. The APC announced recently that Alli would represent the party in the upcoming gubernatorial election.
The dissenting aspirants—Hakeem Alao, Rauf Olaniyan, Ayobami Lam-Adesina, Akeem Agbaje, Ololade Bakare, and Musibau Asanike—asserted that the party disregarded proper procedures in its selection process. They emphasized that, as it stands, the APC does not have a legitimate gubernatorial candidate in accordance with electoral law.
These concerns were raised following a meeting with a reconciliation committee led by Senator Olufemi Lanlehin and Professor Taoheed Adedoja, which was established to address discontent among party members.
Speaking on behalf of the dissenting group, Engineer Hakeem Alao reiterated their stance, stating, “We have intimated the committee of our grievances and made our position known. As it stands, there is no candidate for now, and we have not fulfilled the provisions of the electoral law.”
Alao added that while they hope for a resolution, the current situation means the APC lacks a qualified gubernatorial candidate. “Whoever is picked at the end of the day, we will work with that individual, but as for now, we have no gubernatorial candidate in the APC,” he stated.
The situation continues to develop as the committee deliberates on the complaints raised by the aspirants.
