World Cup: ‘I thought video of Messi bathing Yamal was AI’ – New York Mayor on Argentina vs Spain

Mayor Mamdani to Remain Neutral in FIFA World Cup Final
New York City Mayor Zohran Mamdani announced his intention to adopt a neutral stance during the final match of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, scheduled for Sunday at the New York-New Jersey Stadium.
The final will feature a match between Spain and Argentina, two teams vying for the coveted trophy. Mamdani addressed the media at City Hall in response to inquiries about his support for either team.
“I do not favor either team, as my support seems to lead to their defeat,” he remarked, expressing his enthusiasm for the upcoming competition between players Lamine Yamal and Lionel Messi.
Mamdani added, “This World Cup has been remarkable. Initially, I thought the image of Lionel Messi and Lamine Yamal was AI-generated, but it was quite real. There exists a photo of Messi and a young Yamal together in a bathtub, and now they are set to compete this Sunday, which is extraordinary. I’m eager for a great match.”
The 2026 World Cup, which began on June 11 at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City, will conclude in New Jersey, with only two matches remaining in the tournament. The final pits South American champions Argentina against European champions Spain, who were previously slated to meet in the Finalissima earlier this year.
As the city prepares to host this prestigious event, anticipation builds for what promises to be an exciting culmination of the tournament.
