Three Arrested Following Machete Attack on Bauchi Student

Bauchi, Nigeria — The Bauchi State Police Command has apprehended three individuals in connection with a machete attack on an 18-year-old student from Government Day Secondary School, Miri. The attack occurred on July 15, 2026, as the student was returning home in Birindi Sabon Kauran Lafiyari.

According to a statement from Police Spokesman SP Nafiu Habib, the student’s father reported the incident at the ‘B’ Division in GRA, Bauchi. The report indicated that two unidentified men armed with machetes confronted the student and questioned him about his whereabouts.

One of the attackers reportedly inflicted a serious cut to the student’s left hand before fleeing the scene. After the incident, police transported the victim to ATBU Teaching Hospital in Bauchi, where he is currently receiving treatment and is reported to be in stable condition.

Authorities stated that the student was able to identify the suspects, which led to the arrests of Aliyu Abubakar, 23; Mubarak Muhammad, 18; and Salisu Abubakar, 22, all residents of Wuntin Dada, Bauchi. The police also recovered weapons linked to the attack.

Three additional suspects—identified as Ismail, alias Matsala; Abba Sarkin Fawa; and Sagir, alias Kwalba—managed to escape and are currently at large.

Commissioner of Police Sani-Omolori Aliyu condemned the attack and ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further investigation. He also initiated a manhunt for the fleeing suspects and instructed that the arrested individuals be charged in court upon completion of the investigation.

The Commissioner urged parents, guardians, and school officials to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities in schools and their communities. Additionally, the police appealed to the public for information regarding the whereabouts of the escaped suspects.
