Nigerian Troops Neutralize Boko Haram Terrorist in Yobe State
Troops from Sector 2 of Operation HADIN KAI have killed a Boko Haram terrorist following the foiling of an attempted extortion mission by the Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) in Yobe State.
The incident was detailed in a statement released Tuesday by Captain Mohammed Goni, the Acting Military Information Officer at the Headquarters Joint Task Force (North East) Operation HADIN KAI.
According to Goni, troops acted on reliable intelligence regarding the movement of two Volkswagen Golf vehicles and motorcycles carrying suspected terrorists aiming to collect illegal levies from local communities. In response, soldiers from the Forward Operating Base Bukarti, in conjunction with the 27 Task Force Brigade, launched an aggressive patrol along the Paya Kafiya axis on July 19, 2026.
The troops engaged the terrorists with superior firepower upon contact. During the confrontation, one of the Volkswagen Golf vehicles was immobilized, and its driver was killed. The remaining four terrorists, unable to withstand the attack, abandoned the vehicle and fled into the nearby bush, sustaining gunshot wounds.
Further operations conducted on July 20, 2026, along the Paya Kafiya–Garin Gada axis resulted in the recovery of the abandoned vehicle, 25 rounds of belted PKT ammunition, one loaded AK-47 magazine, and several empty PKT ammunition cases. Additionally, troops seized assorted drugs, including paracetamol and nicotine products, along with mechanical tools believed to be used for logistical support by the terrorists.
Goni emphasized the importance of intelligence-led operations and the ongoing commitment of Operation HADIN KAI to disrupting terrorist activities, dismantling illicit revenue networks, and restricting the freedom of action for terrorist groups in the North East region.
“Operation HADIN KAI remains determined to apply sustained pressure on terrorist elements and will continue conducting intelligence-driven offensive operations in cooperation with other security agencies and law-abiding citizens until terrorism is decisively defeated and lasting peace is established,” Goni stated.
