Police recover 28 human skulls, bones from Abia forests
Umuaku-Isuochi, Abia State — Authorities recovered 28 human skulls and bones, believed to belong to kidnapping victims, from two criminal hideouts in the Umuaku-Isuochi and Nneato forests in the Umunneochi Local Government Area. The recovery was made by operatives from the Abia State Police Command.
The operation was conducted by multiple units, including the Violent Crime Response Unit, the Anti-Kidnapping Unit, the Anti-Cultism Unit, the Intelligence Response Squad, the Isuochi Divisional Police Station, and the Rapid Response Squad.
Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) DSP Maureen Chinaka announced the development on Sunday, stating the operation was part of ongoing intelligence-led initiatives across Abia State. This effort is aligned with a directive from Commissioner of Police CP Wilfred Afolabi, under the initiative titled “Operation No Hideout for Criminal Elements in the State.”
According to the police press release, when tactical operatives arrived at the sites, the suspects abandoned the camps, which were subsequently dismantled.
“Twenty-eight human skulls and bones, suspected to be those of kidnapping victims, were recovered. Investigation is ongoing, and monitoring of the area continues. Efforts are also being intensified to apprehend the fleeing suspects,” the release stated.
The Commissioner emphasized the commitment of the Abia State Police Command to ensuring that the region remains free from criminal activities. The police encouraged residents to report any security concerns to the nearest police station to aid in these efforts.
