Thirty-One Companies Secure Oil and Gas Blocks in Nigeria’s 2025 Licensing Round
Abuja, Nigeria — A total of 31 companies have been awarded contracts for 37 oil and gas blocks as part of Nigeria’s 2025 Licensing Round. The announcement followed a commercial bid conference held in Abuja on Tuesday.
Organized by the Nigerian Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission (NUPRC) at the Transcorp Event Centre, the bidding process attracted participation from 143 companies, which submitted approximately 200 bids for the 50 oil and gas blocks available. Notably, 13 of the offered blocks received no bids.
The awarded blocks span various regions, including onshore and shallow waters of the Niger Delta, as well as deep offshore areas. They also cover the Benin, Anambra, and Chad basins, along with the Benue Trough. The NUPRC noted that this licensing round marked a significant interest from investors in Nigeria’s frontier basins, including the Benue Trough, Chad Basin, Anambra Basin, and Benin Basin.
The successful companies include SSonic Petroleum Limited, CFP Pipeline and Flowlines, Dutchford E&P Limited, Attabanson Global Company Limited, Rosem Energy Limited, Pivot-GIS Limited, and Network E&P, among others.
The NUPRC stated that final awards will be issued once the successful bidders pay the required signature bonuses and receive approval from the Minister of Petroleum Resources, in compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act (PIA) of 2021.
Oritsemeyiwa Eyesan, Chief Executive of NUPRC, congratulated the winning bidders and emphasized the importance of timely payment of signature bonuses and the commencement of development on the awarded assets. She cautioned that any undeveloped assets could be reallocated under the commission’s “drill or drop” policy.
