Falconets Striker Janet Akekoromowei Signs with Benfica
Janet Akekoromowei, a forward with Nigeria’s Falconets, has signed a two-year contract with Portuguese football club Benfica, with an option for an additional two years, according to reports.
The 18-year-old athlete joins Benfica after a successful spell with Bayelsa Queens in the Nigeria Women Football League (NWFL). During her tenure with the Nasarawa Amazons in the 2024/25 season, Akekoromowei earned the title of Most Valuable Player, netting 13 goals in 19 matches.
On the international stage, she represented Nigeria at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup held in Colombia and has also been capped at the senior national level.
