Operation FANSAN YAMMA Neutralizes Terrorists, Rescues Kidnapped Victims in Zamfara
ZAMFARA, Nigeria — Troops participating in Operation FANSAN YAMMA killed five suspected terrorists and rescued 11 kidnapped victims during a gun battle on the Gambada–Gummi–Sokoto road.
The clash occurred around 4:30 p.m. on July 22 as troops conducted offensive operations in the area, according to a report from Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency and security analyst focused on the Lake Chad region.
During the exchange of gunfire, the troops engaged the suspects, resulting in the neutralization of five individuals. Several others reportedly fled into nearby bushlands as the military maintained pressure on them.
Makama’s report detailed that the fleeing suspects abandoned 11 kidnapped victims along with one motorcycle, both of which were later recovered by the troops.
The rescued individuals were secured and subsequently evacuated for medical attention and debriefing.
In addition, military forces are actively pursuing the fleeing suspects to prevent their regrouping and further attacks.
