Man Dies, Two Injured in Early Morning Truck Accident on Kara Bridge
In a tragic incident on Friday morning, a man was killed and two others injured after a truck overturned on Kara Bridge, causing a multiple-vehicle crash and significant traffic disruption.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) reported that its response team was deployed to the scene at approximately 5:46 a.m. following notifications of the accident, which blocked a major route heading into Mowe-Ibafo.
Upon arrival, responders found a truck laden with bags of monosodium glutamate on its side, obstructing about 75% of the roadway. Preliminary investigations suggest that the accident was the result of brake failure, which caused the driver to lose control of the vehicle.
The incident created heavy traffic congestion that led to a secondary collision involving four other vehicles, including a Toyota Sienna, a mini truck carrying paint, a flatbed truck loaded with imported plywood, and another fully loaded truck. Materials from the trucks were scattered on the road, further complicating the situation.
Sadly, responders discovered an adult male trapped beneath the overturned truck, who was pronounced dead at the scene. His body was subsequently recovered and handed over to the Federal Road Safety Corps for investigation and evacuation.
Two other adult males sustained minor injuries and were treated on-site.
To mitigate further risks, LASEMA secured the area and implemented traffic management strategies to ease vehicular movement. Recovery operations began with the assistance of two private tow trucks to remove the affected vehicles and restore normal traffic flow.
Efforts are being coordinated among LASEMA, the Federal Road Safety Corps, the Nigeria Police Force, and the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority. Work continues to clear the roadway and ensure safe travel conditions for motorists.
Motorists are advised to exercise patience, adhere to traffic diversions, and obey directions from law enforcement officials, particularly in the vicinity of Kara Bridge.
LASEMA’s Permanent Secretary, Dr. Olufemi Damilola Oke-Osanyintolu, expressed condolences to the family of the deceased and wished a speedy recovery to the injured. He commended the efforts of emergency responders and the cooperation of the public during the incident response.
LASEMA reiterated its commitment to safeguarding lives and property and will continue to collaborate with other emergency agencies to ensure an effective response across Lagos State.
