Alleged Defamation: Please release Udoito to bury her father – Ekid begs Gov Eno

EPU President Appeals for Release of Detained Princess Udoito

CALABAR — Mkpisong Samuel Udonsak, President-General of the Ekid People’s Union (EPU), has renewed his appeal to Akwa Ibom State Governor Umo Eno to facilitate the release of Princess God’sOwn Udoito, who has been in custody since January 2026 on charges of defamation against the governor.

The Appeal Court in Calabar upheld a Uyo High Court ruling last week that denied Udoito bail, citing the seriousness of the alleged offenses, concerns about a potential flight risk, and the impact on public order. The court also mandated an expedited hearing to progress the case.

In his appeal, Udonsak urged the governor to exercise compassion and consider the personal circumstances surrounding Udoito’s detention. He noted that Udoito has expressed regret for her actions and has apologized to the governor.

“Many prominent individuals and organizations, both within and outside the Ekid community, have also joined in advocating for her release,” Udonsak stated. “We hope that Governor Umo Eno can move beyond past grievances and allow her to return home to grieve for her father and care for her children.”
