Nigerian Army Soldier Arrested for Alleged Terrorism Links
Troops participating in Operation HADIN KAI have apprehended a soldier wanted by the Nigerian Army for allegedly supplying military uniforms to terrorist groups in the North-East region.
Zagazola Makama, a security expert, reported the arrest in a statement shared on social media platform X. The suspect, identified as Private Mohammed Yusuf, 23NA/84/1939, was taken into custody around 6:30 p.m. on July 25, 2026. His capture was executed by troops of the 7 Provost Group under the direction of the Acting Commander.
Makama indicated that preliminary investigations revealed Yusuf had fled his unit and traveled to Maiduguri on July 7, 2026, prior to being declared wanted. Investigators found that he had sought refuge in Gomari Costain, located in the Jere Local Government Area of Borno State, where he was reportedly sheltered by another soldier, Private Baba Kamal Sale of the Corps of Intelligence, Dikwa.
The 7 Provost Group, acting on credible intelligence, placed Yusuf under continuous surveillance, successfully intercepting him at the Jidari Bus Stop while he allegedly attempted to escape to Cameroon.
The suspect is currently in custody of the 7 Provost Group, where he is undergoing additional investigations related to the alleged provision of military supplies to terrorist factions and potential connections to other collaborators.
“This arrest represents a significant breakthrough in ongoing efforts to dismantle insider networks that facilitate terrorist activities,” said Makama. Investigations continue to determine the full scope of Yusuf’s actions and identify any accomplices.
