Peter Obi Accuses President Tinubu of Secrecy at Aso Rock
Presidential candidate Peter Obi of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has criticized President Bola Tinubu for what he describes as a lack of communication with the public. During a live broadcast on Channels Television on Sunday, Obi claimed that Tinubu has effectively turned Aso Rock, the presidential residence, into a “bunker.”
Obi challenged the president to engage directly with the Nigerian populace he governs. “A leader must be speaking to his people,” he stated, emphasizing that voters expect transparency and accountability from their elected officials.
“The person we voted for in this country is Bola Tinubu. He’s no longer talking,” Obi said. He expressed concern over the current state of governance, asking, “Where is the man we gave our mandate?”
According to Obi, the public is inundated with statements from unnamed officials rather than the president himself. “We didn’t vote for all these characters talking to us. I will be speaking to the people,” he added, asserting his commitment to direct communication if elected.
Obi also addressed issues of governmental integrity, questioning the transparency of various agencies and reiterating that it is the president’s responsibility to communicate with the nation. “Where is the man who is leading the country? He should be the one talking to everybody,” he remarked.
