Malawi Coach Exudes Confidence Ahead of Women’s Africa Cup Opener Against Nigeria
Malawi head coach Lovemore Fazili conveyed optimism about his team’s capabilities as they prepare to face defending champions Nigeria in their Group C match at the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The encounter is set to take place in Rabat on Tuesday night.
This matchup will mark the first meeting between the two nations at this level of competition. Despite being considered underdogs, Fazili emphasized his team’s readiness to compete against Nigeria, a team that has claimed the title ten times.
“We are going there to fight because we cannot approach this challenge passively. My players understand that we are committed to putting forth our best effort,” Fazili stated during a press conference on Monday.
In the other Group C fixture, Zambia’s Copper Queens will face Egypt’s Cleopatras.
