FIFA President Gianni Infantino has been summoned to testify before the U.S. House Judiciary Committee regarding the global football governing body’s ties with the Trump administration.
Jamie Raskin, the committee’s top Democrat, initiated the inquiry in a letter dated Sunday. According to reports from The Athletic, Raskin is seeking a range of documents that illuminate the relationship between FIFA and the Trump administration.
Raskin’s request specifically includes a comprehensive list of any valuable items—such as financial transfers, gifts, prizes, awards, and public appearances—provided to President Donald Trump, members of his administration, their families, or any related entities, including The Trump Organization.
The scrutiny follows a controversial incident during the 2026 World Cup tournament, when Trump reportedly contacted Infantino to request a review of USA player Folarin Balogun’s suspension prior to a knockout match against Belgium. FIFA later announced that Balogun would be eligible to play, asserting that the decision was made independently of any external influence.
