Kaduna State Governor Reaffirms Security Commitment with New Training for Armed Forest Guards
Kaduna State Governor Senator Uba Sani has emphasized his administration’s dedication to enhancing security measures aimed at mitigating criminal activities throughout the state.
At a passing-out parade on Saturday, approximately 1,000 Armed Forest Guards completed their training, which was conducted in collaboration with the Office of the National Security Adviser (ONSA) and the Department of State Services (DSS). The graduation took place at the DSS Development Centre in Afaka.
“This exercise represents a crucial advancement in reinforcing our state’s security architecture,” Governor Sani said. He highlighted that the newly trained guards would act as first responders in their communities, collaborating closely with conventional security agencies to bolster surveillance, improve intelligence gathering, and deter criminal activities in forest areas that may be exploited by terrorists.
The governor noted that these guards were chosen from a pool of 7,000 personnel from the Kaduna Vigilance Service (KADVS). They received specialized training designed to enhance their operational capabilities, with the goal of significantly reducing insecurity in the region.
Under the newly established rules of engagement, the Armed Forest Guards will be issued more advanced firearms than previously given to KADVS personnel, enhancing their ability to tackle criminal threats effectively. Their deployment within local communities is intended to leverage their familiarity with the terrain for improved intelligence operations.
Governor Sani also shared that National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu praised Kaduna State for being the first in Nigeria to initiate the establishment and training of Armed Forest Guards, describing the program as the most successful of its kind in the country.
The governor expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, ONSA, the DSS, and other security agencies for their ongoing support in bolstering security throughout Kaduna State.
In a move to further strengthen the state’s security framework, Sani announced plans to train an additional 1,000 Armed Forest Guards. He congratulated the inaugural graduating class and acknowledged the support of their families, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to investing in proactive, intelligence-driven security initiatives that aim to protect lives, ensure peace, and foster sustainable development.
