Yobe State Police Arrest Suspect, Recover Stolen Cattle
YOBE STATE, Nigeria — The Yobe State Police Command reported the arrest of a 28-year-old man and the recovery of 19 cattle suspected to have been stolen in Bursari Local Government Area.
According to a statement from Police Public Relations Officer SP Dungus Abdulkarim, officers from the Garin Alkali Divisional Police Headquarters intercepted the suspect, identified as Umar Sanda of Lafiya Fulani Settlement, Azare, in Bauchi State. The suspect was apprehended last Thursday on the outskirts of Dumburi Village in Masaba Ward, Bursari LGA, while in possession of the livestock.
During initial questioning, Sanda claimed that the cattle belonged to his brother, who lives at the same address. However, police stated he could not provide sufficient evidence to substantiate his ownership or lawful possession of the animals.
As a result, Sanda was taken into custody, and the recovered cattle were secured as investigations commenced to determine the rightful owner and whether the crime of cattle rustling or any related offenses were committed.
Commissioner of Police Usman Kanfani Jibrin emphasized the command’s dedication to combating cattle rustling and other forms of criminal activity in the state. He encouraged livestock owners and the public to assist the police by providing timely and reliable information to help prevent and detect crime.
