Kebbi State Police Arrest Two Suspects in Military Recruits Kidnapping

The Kebbi State Police Command has apprehended two individuals linked to the recent abduction of three newly graduated military recruits along the Anka/Bukuyum Road in Zamfara State.

The arrests were announced in a statement Tuesday by SP Bashir Usman, the Police Public Relations Officer for the Kebbi State Command.

According to the statement, the suspects—identified as Abubakar Mallan Abubakar from Gargam Village in the Anka Local Government Area of Zamfara State, and Usman Muhammadu from Ajera, Ilorin, Kwara State—were taken into custody during a targeted operation on August 1 at approximately 6:15 a.m. This action followed credible intelligence regarding their involvement.

Preliminary investigations indicated that one of the suspects provided significant information related to the kidnapping, which occurred in July 2026 along the Kwanan Mayanchi–Gurusu corridor in Zamfara State.

One of the abducted recruits, Kabiru Hassan, hails from Ribah in the Danko/Wasagu Local Government Area of Kebbi State, while the other two recruits are from Zuru Local Government Area. Authorities confirmed that all three victims have since been freed.

The case has been forwarded to the State Criminal Investigation Department for further inquiry. Commissioner of Police Umar M. Hadejia praised the efforts of the officers involved in the operation and reiterated the command’s dedication to apprehending and prosecuting everyone connected to the abduction.
