Delta State Police Foil Kidnapping Attempt in Ughelli
The Delta State Police Command has thwarted a kidnapping attempt targeting a pastor and a retired school principal in Ughelli.
On July 31, 2026, officers from the ‘A’ Division acted on credible intelligence regarding an alleged plot to abduct the individuals. According to the Delta State Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bright Edafe, a 26-year-old suspect, identified as Jeremiah (last name withheld), was reported to have attempted to recruit an accomplice for the scheme.
Police promptly apprehended the suspect at his place of work in Ughelli. During the operation, authorities recovered a single-barrel gun and two live cartridges.
The suspect is currently undergoing further investigation.
CP Yemi Oyeniyi, Commissioner of Police for Delta State, praised the officers involved in the operation and emphasized the Command’s dedication to intelligence-led policing. He urged the community to continue providing timely information to help maintain safety in Delta State.
