Bauchi Governor Makes Cabinet Changes Ahead of Elections
Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed announced a cabinet reshuffle on Thursday, appointing four new commissioners as his administration approaches its final months. The appointments come less than nine months before the end of his term and follow the resignation of several commissioners who are pursuing political ambitions for the 2027 elections. Additionally, two commissioners were removed from their positions.
The newly appointed commissioners are Madaki Ahmad Gololo, who will lead the Ministry of Small and Medium Enterprises and Cooperatives; Bashir Yau, assigned to the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development; Bashir Adamu Rishi, who will head the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management; and Baraya Ibrahim, appointed to the Ministry of Commerce, Industry and Investment.
During a swearing-in ceremony at the Government House in Bauchi, Mohammed emphasized the importance of ensuring representation in local government areas affected by the vacuum. He noted that the selection of commissioners was based on merit, competence, experience, and a commitment to the state’s development.
The governor urged the new appointees to familiarize themselves with existing government policies and to work closely with permanent secretaries and civil servants to fulfill their ministries’ objectives. He cautioned that their actions would be closely monitored by both the government and the public.
“Your stewardship must reflect probity, accountability, and transparency, and you should avoid conduct that could bring this administration into disrepute,” Mohammed said.
In addition to the new appointments, the governor announced the redeployment of several commissioners: Adamu Babayo Gabarin to the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, Abdul Hassan to the Ministry of Rural Development and Special Duties, and Muhammad Hamisu Shira to the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. Hassan Eliyakub and Usman Usman will continue as supervising commissioners for the Ministries of Local Government and Water Resources, respectively.
On behalf of the newly appointed commissioners, Baraya Ibrahim expressed gratitude for the governor’s confidence, pledging loyalty to the state’s development agenda. He stated their commitment to fostering transparency and accountability in the implementation of government programs.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for guidance and protection for the new commissioners, the state, and the nation, as Mohammed reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to improving citizens’ welfare before his term concludes.
