Osun State Governor Urges NYSC Members to Uphold Law and Promote Peace
EDE, Osun State — Governor Ademola Adeleke has called on members of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) assigned to Osun State to adhere to the law and foster peaceful coexistence. His remarks were made during the swearing-in and official opening ceremony of the 2026 Batch ‘B’ Stream II Orientation Course at the NYSC Permanent Orientation Camp in Ede on Friday.
Represented by the State Commissioner for Youth Affairs, Moshood Olagunju, Adeleke emphasized the importance of the National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance taken by the corps members and encouraged them to resolve conflicts through lawful means.
“I urge you therefore, to stay true to the National Pledge and Oath of Allegiance you swore to before witnesses today,” Adeleke stated. He cautioned the corps members against taking the law into their own hands and highlighted their role as potential role models for younger Nigerians.
The governor further urged corps members to embrace diversity, emphasizing the need for unity, tolerance, and mutual respect among different cultural and ethnic backgrounds.
“Make friends and relate freely with one another, cherishing and respecting your differences while diligently discovering your similarities,” he added. “Corps members should treat one another as brothers and sisters.”
Adeleke reassured the corps members of his administration’s commitment to supporting the NYSC scheme in Osun, particularly regarding their welfare and safety throughout their service year. He described Osun as “a beautiful and relatively peaceful state” known for its hospitable residents.
Also speaking at the event, NYSC Osun State Coordinator Ekeng Ita Kubiangha announced that nearly 3,000 corps members had registered for the orientation program, which includes new arrivals as well as corps members displaced from Lagos State.
Kubiangha explained that the three-week orientation course is designed to prepare corps members for the demands of national service, encompassing physical training, lectures, social events, and a Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development program.
He stressed the importance of maintaining discipline and cleanliness, particularly in light of the upcoming Osun governorship election, during which some corps members will serve as ad hoc personnel for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
“As you settle into camp activities, it is important to acknowledge the forthcoming gubernatorial election in Osun State,” Kubiangha said, noting that prior to the orientation’s commencement, he and his team visited all 27 local government areas to prepare corps members for their electoral duties.
He concluded by encouraging the corps members to support a peaceful electoral process as they fulfill their responsibilities.
