Former Vice President and 2027 presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar has expressed serious concerns regarding a potential breach of his private banking information. In a statement issued on Friday, Atiku described an incident in which an unknown individual transferred funds into one of his personal accounts.
The transaction, which was processed through a prominent commercial bank in Nigeria, included a note stating, “Contribution Electioneering Campaign.” Atiku emphasized that neither he nor his campaign team had solicited or authorized the payment and had no knowledge of the sender.
“This disturbing development raises questions about how an unknown individual accessed confidential banking details, highlighting broader concerns regarding the security of financial data for all Nigerians,” the statement read.
Atiku pointed out that the affected account is strictly private and that its information is not available to the public. He warned that if a former Vice President and leading presidential candidate can be subjected to such a breach, it indicates a significant vulnerability affecting all Nigerian citizens.
He suggested that the leak may have originated from individuals with privileged access to sensitive information, cautioning that such breaches could expose account holders to risks from various criminal elements, including kidnappers and fraudsters.
The former candidate called the incident part of a troubling pattern of suspicious activities leading up to the 2027 general elections and urged security agencies to investigate further. In concluding remarks, Atiku dismissed any suggestions of character assassination and reaffirmed his commitment to offering credible leadership and practical solutions to Nigerian challenges.
