Super Falcons Coach Addresses Defensive Issues Ahead of Quarter-Finals
Super Falcons head coach Justine Madugu acknowledged the need to address his team’s defensive vulnerabilities as they prepare for the quarter-finals of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
The defending champions have distinguished themselves offensively, scoring a tournament-high nine goals in their three group matches. However, they have also conceded five goals during the same period, a stark contrast to their previous title-winning performance, where they allowed only three goals over six games.
Madugu emphasized the importance of improving defensive performance. “We have been a very solid team defensively, but recently we have been conceding unnecessary goals, which is very worrisome,” he told reporters.
The Super Falcons are set to face the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon at the Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca this Sunday. The match is scheduled to kick off at 6 PM Nigeria time.
