Transfer: ‘They’ll turn on you quickly’ – Obi Mikel warns Salah about Trabzonspor

Mikel Offers Guidance to Salah Following Transfer to Trabzonspor

Former Trabzonspor midfielder John Obi Mikel has offered advice to Mohamed Salah, who recently joined Trabzonspor after leaving Liverpool. Mikel emphasized that while Salah will be welcomed by the club’s passionate fans, he must consistently perform at a high level to maintain their support.

Salah, a former Chelsea player, signed with the Turkish club as a free agent after his contract with Liverpool expired at the end of the season. He was greeted by thousands of enthusiastic fans at the airport following the announcement of his transfer.

In an interview with Turkish outlet Sabah, Mikel noted the excitement surrounding Salah’s arrival. “Salah has his reasons for moving there; is it for football or financial incentives? If we consider finances, surely Saudi Arabia would be the better option,” he stated.

Mikel described Trabzonspor as an “excellent club” situated in a city that is deeply passionate about football. He reflected on the unique atmosphere surrounding Salah’s transfer, mentioning that thousands of people welcomed him at the airport and the stadium was reportedly full for his announcement. He also highlighted a significant increase in the club’s social media engagement.

“We know the quality of the training facilities, the dressing rooms, and the amenities; they may need adjustments for Mo Salah,” Mikel added.

However, Mikel cautioned Salah about the high expectations that come with playing for Trabzonspor. He noted that while the supporters can be devoted, they may also quickly turn against players if performances do not meet expectations. “The people in the city will worship you if you’re playing well and winning games. They turn on you quickly; they don’t care who you are or where you come from,” he remarked.

Mikel concluded by expressing his hope that Salah and his family will feel comfortable in Trabzon and enjoy their time in the city, emphasizing the strong bond that can develop between players and fans through success on the field.
