Five suspects arrested over alleged killing of Benue varsity lecturer

The Vice-Chancellor of Rev. Fr. Moses Orshio Adasu University, Makurdi (MOAUM), Prof. Timothy Terseer Alabar, announced on Monday that five suspects have been arrested in connection with the alleged murder of faculty member Prof. Gabriel Saawuan Nyityo.

Prof. Nyityo, a professor in the Department of History, was shot and killed by unidentified assailants on July 7, 2026, at his home in Makurdi, alongside his younger brother.

“This incident marks a significant loss for the university and the Department of History,” Prof. Alabar said. He confirmed that the suspects, who are believed to be from Awe Local Government Area in Nasarawa State, were apprehended following intelligence reports from security agencies.
