Ekiti Police Arrest Three Suspects for Firearms Possession and Cultism
Operatives from the Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU) of the Ekiti State Police Command have arrested three individuals accused of unlawful possession of firearms and involvement in cult activities.
The suspects, identified as Aluko Mayowa, 33; Oparinde Samuel, 34; and Mukaila Akintayo, 37, were apprehended during an operation targeting criminal elements in the region.
The police confirmed the arrests in a statement released by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Sunday Abutu. According to the statement, preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects are affiliated with the Eiye Secret Confraternity. They reportedly admitted their membership and specified their roles within the organization.
Following the arrests, police conducted searches of the suspects’ residences, uncovering a locally made pistol, a UTC axe, a dangerous iron axe, a jackknife, and a cutlass among the exhibits seized.
Authorities are actively pursuing additional suspects still at large, while investigations aim to reveal further details about the suspected cult group’s operations within the state.
Commissioner of Police for Ekiti State, Falade Adegoroye Michael, emphasized the command’s commitment to dismantling this group and ensuring accountability for criminal activities in the area. He urged community members to remain vigilant and provide any information that could aid in combatting cultism and other violent crimes.
