WAFCON 2026: Super Falcons too devasted to eat after Cameroon defeat – Kanu

Super Falcons Reflect on Disappointing Exit from Women’s Africa Cup of Nations

Uchenna Kanu expressed the Super Falcons’ disappointment following their elimination from the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. The team was defeated 1-0 by the Indomitable Lionesses of Cameroon in the quarter-finals, a match held Sunday night at Larbi Zaouli Stadium in Casablanca.

With their victory, Cameroon advances to face the hosts, the Atlas Lionesses of Morocco, in the semi-finals and secures a spot at the 2027 FIFA Women’s World Cup.

In light of their loss, the Super Falcons will look to qualify for the 2027 tournament through the upcoming playoffs. Kanu, a striker for Cruz Azul in Mexico, shared her insights on the emotional aftermath of the match.

“The players are still feeling the weight of the defeat,” Kanu told ESPN. She noted that many of her teammates, herself included, struggled to eat following the game’s conclusion.

“Some didn’t even come out for breakfast today. I, for one, skipped breakfast and lunch,” she said. “It wasn’t until the afternoon that I managed to eat something. We’re all feeling down.”
