‘You scammed us, sold my catalogue’ – Shallipopi blasts Dapper, threatens EFCC action
Nigerian singer Crown Uzama, widely known as Shallipopi, has publicly accused music executive Dapper Music of withholding royalties for 46 of his songs and selling off his music catalog without consent.
In a series of posts on the social media platform X, Shallipopi detailed his ongoing dispute with Dapper over three key issues: the non-payment of royalties, the alleged sale of his music catalog, and accountability regarding financial dealings. He highlighted that royalties from several tracks, including his popular song “E Don Cast,” have not been paid.
“Dapper, don’t forget my money is with you; you are holding royalties from 46 songs, including the earnings from ‘E Don Cast,'” Shallipopi wrote.
The singer alleged that Dapper has taken the catalogs of multiple artists to Virgin Music and received compensation from the arrangement without properly accounting for the funds.
Shallipopi expressed his intent to escalate the matter, stating he is prepared to report Dapper to Nigeria’s Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC). “Dapper, you are holding my money, and you have sold my catalog while pretending to be confused. I will go to the EFCC and write a statement against you,” he declared.
Additionally, Shallipopi accused Dapper of misleading the EFCC, alleging that he is not the only artist affected by these alleged transactions. “You go to another EFCC office and lie. You forgot that I am not the only one you scammed,” he said.
In his remarks, Shallipopi also alleged that Dapper manipulates artists within the industry and made further claims regarding his dealings with others. “You don’t know how to work like Jude, and you know it; you are a master manipulator,” Shallipopi continued. “If I hadn’t been careful, you would have taken advantage of me,” he added.
The allegations come amidst growing scrutiny of financial practices within the Nigerian music industry, raising questions about transparency and artist rights.
