NDLEA arrests 70-year-old, others in multi-state operations
The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has apprehended multiple suspected drug traffickers and confiscated significant quantities of illegal substances in operations across various states.
Agency spokesperson Femi Babafemi announced these findings in a statement released on Sunday.
In Oyo State, NDLEA officers monitoring the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway stopped a Toyota Sienna and detained two occupants, 70-year-old Abdulfatai Oyelaran and 50-year-old Abdulrauf Ajadi. A search of the vehicle reportedly uncovered 52,000 ampoules of pentazocine and 6,000 ampoules of tramadol.
In Kwara State, officials arrested Abubakar Adamu, 50, and Bilyaminu Nuhu, 30, in the Kam Wire area of Ilorin while they were allegedly transporting 55.96 kilograms of skunk in a truck.
Delta State also saw significant activity, where Osaro Ikpoba, 43, and 18-year-old Samuel Godbless were intercepted on the Onitsha-Asaba Expressway. Authorities recovered 124,100 tramadol pills, 786 bottles of codeine syrup, 2,598 Rohypnol tablets, 4,800 diazepam tablets, 470 pentazocine ampoules, and 200 additional tramadol ampoules.
In a related operation, Emeka Tony, 50, was detained on the Kwale-Ozoro Expressway, where officers discovered 1,244 cartridges and ₦8 million in cash.
In Plateau State, officers stopped a Toyota Corolla on the Riyom-Jos Road, seizing 239,490 capsules of Tramaforce, a tramadol-based product, and arresting Kasum Sherif in connection with the incident.
Kano State recorded significant drug seizures as well, with six suspects arrested on the Zaria-Kano Road. Authorities confiscated 728,958 pills, including tramadol, Rohypnol, and other opioids. The haul also included 360 grams of cocaine, 99.8 grams of methamphetamine, 50 bottles of codeine syrup, and 2.7 kilograms of a synthetic cannabis variant known as Loud.
Additionally, on Friday in Zawaciki Gida Dubu, Kumbotso Local Government Area, NDLEA officers arrested two men, Mustapha Iliya, 30, and Abdulwahab Abdulrashid, 24, after allegedly finding 171 blocks of skunk weighing 106.8 kilograms.
The NDLEA stated that these operations are part of ongoing efforts to disrupt drug supply chains throughout the country.
