South African artist Tyla has expressed a desire for a unified Africa following criticism regarding her silence on xenophobic attacks against Nigerians in her home country.

The criticism intensified when several Nigerian celebrities campaigned against her scheduled performance in Lagos. They accused Tyla of not utilizing her platform to condemn violence directed at foreign nationals in South Africa. In light of the backlash, Tyla ultimately decided to cancel her concert.

Speaking at the South African Music Awards over the weekend, Tyla emphasized her pride in her African identity, stating, “I pray one day to see a unified Africa. It’s so important.” A video of her remarks has since garnered attention on social media.
