The Edo Internal Revenue Service extends annual PAYE tax returns filing by two weeks

Edo State Revenue Service Extends PAYE Tax Filing Deadline
BENIN CITY — The Edo State Internal Revenue Service (EIRS) has announced a two-week extension for the filing of annual Pay-As-You-Earn (PAYE) tax returns.
Courage Eboigbe, the Head of Corporate Communications at EIRS, made the announcement in a statement to the press on Monday. He noted that the original deadline for filing was January 31, 2026.
Eboigbe stated that the extension aims to assist employers in adjusting to recent tax reforms and to allow sufficient time for organizations to align their submissions with the provisions of the Nigerian Tax Administration Act (NTAA) 2025. He urged employers to utilize the official digital portal for filing returns on behalf of their employees.
Despite the extended deadline, Eboigbe emphasized that the agency remains firm in enforcing regulations regarding non-compliance. “The EIRS warned that penalties will be imposed on defaulting employers in accordance with Sections 127 and 101 of the NTAA,” he said. He encouraged employers to take advantage of the additional time to avoid such penalties.
To be considered valid, all submissions must be signed and stamped by the employer or an accredited tax agent and comply with Section 33 of the NTAA 2025.
