‘Kidnapping, other violent crimes worrisome’ – Olubadan charges Nigerian Govt

Olubadan of Ibadanland Voices Concerns Over Rising Crime Rates

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja, expressed grave concerns regarding the rising incidents of kidnapping and violent crime across the country. His remarks were made during a ceremony for the installation of new Mogajis (family heads) and Baales (village chiefs) on Monday in Ibadan.

The installation, which took place at the Olubadan Palace in the Oke Aremo area, saw 14 Mogajis and seven Baales from various families and villages officially appointed. The event was attended by members of the Olubadan-in-Council, as well as other distinguished figures from both within and beyond the city.

Speaking through the Balogun of Ibadanland, Oba Tajudeen Ajibola, Oba Ladoja described the current climate of crime as alarming. In a statement issued by Chief Solomon Ayoade, the Chief Press Secretary to the Olubadan, the traditional ruler urged all levels of government, fellow traditional leaders, and community stakeholders to take immediate action.

He called on the Oyo State Government, led by Governor Seyi Makinde, along with local government chairmen, to initiate a profiling system for foreigners entering the state. This measure, he argued, would help track individuals entering and exiting the state.

Oba Ladoja emphasized the urgency of the situation, stating, “It is worrisome the alarming rate at which people are being kidnapped, terrorized, maimed, and killed nowadays.”
