Osun: Police arrest man over alleged murder of mother
The Osun State Police Command has apprehended a man identified as Taye Kasali in connection with the alleged murder of his mother, Kudirat Kasali. The police recovered her remains from a shallow grave located on a family farm.
The announcement was made in a statement by Police Commissioner Ibrahim Zungura, which was released on Wednesday by spokesperson DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.
According to the statement, the police were notified on September 1 regarding the mysterious disappearances of Kudirat and Taye. Following this report, officers from the Bode-Osi Division launched an investigation into the matter.
On September 7, Taye was arrested based on intelligence gathered during the investigation. He was subsequently interrogated, during which he allegedly confessed to killing his mother on August 31, 2026. Taye claimed that his mother had been calling him “mad” and had threatened to lease out the family’s farmland, which he described as their principal source of income.
Allegedly, he killed Kudirat by slitting her throat with a machete before burying her body on the property. Following his confession, Taye guided investigators to the site where the remains were discovered.
The police also recovered the machete believed to have been used in the crime, which has been retained as evidence as the investigation continues. Commissioner Zungura has instructed that a thorough investigation be conducted, and once completed, the suspect will be charged and brought to court. He assured the public that justice will be served in accordance with the law.
