Nigerian Army Arrests Nine Suspected Drug Dealers in Yobe State
BUNI YADI, Yobe State — Troops from the 27 Task Force Brigade of the Nigerian Army apprehended nine individuals believed to be involved in drug trafficking during an operation on September 19, 2026. The operation, conducted in Buni Yadi, aimed to prevent terrorists from gaining access to illegal drugs.
Following their arrest, the suspects were transferred to the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) on Tuesday, September 21. Major A. Balogun, who represented Brigadier General M.S. Mukhtar, the Brigade’s Commander, stated that the initiative aligns with directives from the Chief of Army Staff to disrupt terrorist operations and curtail their supply chains of illegal substances.
“The arrests are part of broader efforts to dismantle criminal activities that threaten security and foster conditions for terrorism and violent crime,” Balogun said.
The suspects have been identified as Hassan Ibrahim, Ahmed Mohammed Shuwa, Adam Jibril Jakadi, Musa Aga, Mohammed Mohammed, Isa Adamu, Usman Salisu, Mohammed Abiso, and Buba Kambari. Authorities recovered a variety of illicit drugs from the group, including cannabis sativa, tramadol, codeine, and other controlled substances.
In remarks made during the handover, Garba Yakubu, Deputy Commander of Operations for the NDLEA in Yobe State, emphasized the importance of collaboration between the Army and his agency. He indicated that the NDLEA would thoroughly analyze the recovered items and pursue legal action against those apprehended.
Yakubu urged the community, particularly youth, to focus on productive opportunities, such as agriculture, instead of resorting to drug use, which he noted is destructive to their well-being.
