Harvey Weinstein Sentenced to 15 Years for Sexual Assault
NEW YORK – Former Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein was sentenced to 15 years in prison on Monday after being convicted of sexually assaulting Miriam Haley, a former television production assistant, in 2006.
Haley addressed the court during the sentencing hearing, detailing the enduring impact the assault has had on her life and the lengthy pursuit of justice. “Being sexually assaulted by Harvey Weinstein has had a devastating effect on my life and sense of security that may never go away,” Haley stated. She remarked on the challenges of speaking out, adding, “It’s a life sentence for me.”
Weinstein, 74, maintained his innocence and requested leniency during the proceedings. While he expressed regret for Haley’s suffering, he emphasized his claims of innocence. “I do have remorse for Miriam Haley’s pain, but I have to reiterate my innocence,” he told the judge.
The sentencing follows a retrial in which Weinstein was convicted after his original 23-year sentence in New York was overturned by the state’s highest court in 2024. At the retrial, he was found guilty of the assault on Haley but was acquitted of a separate charge related to former model Kaja Sokola. Jurors could not reach a verdict on a rape charge involving Jessica Mann.
In addition to the New York sentence, Weinstein is currently serving a separate 16-year sentence in California for a rape conviction.
