Rivers United Defeats Kun Khalifat FC 5-0, Climbs to Second in NPFL Standings
Rivers United secured a significant 5-0 victory over Kun Khalifat FC on Sunday, propelling the team to second place in the Nigeria Premier Football League (NPFL) standings.
The match, held at Rivers United’s home ground in Port Harcourt, saw Salman Abubakar open the scoring in the 27th minute with an impressive strike from outside the box that found the back of the net.
Despite dominating the first half and creating multiple scoring opportunities, Rivers United went into the break with only a one-goal advantage, as Kun Khalifat managed to hold them off.
Upon resuming play, Rivers United displayed renewed vigor. Chijioke Mbaoma doubled the advantage in the 49th minute after receiving a well-timed pass from Alex Oyowah.
Abubakar soon added to the tally, completing his brace in the 58th minute by finishing off a well-executed team play that put Rivers United firmly in control of the match.
The hosts continued to push for more goals, with Wasiu Falolu scoring the fourth in the 62nd minute, assisted by Mbaoma.
Substitute Ekene Awazie capped the scoring six minutes before the final whistle, bringing the match to a resounding 5-0 conclusion.
With this victory, Rivers United now has 10 points from four matches, placing them second in the NPFL standings. In contrast, Kun Khalifat remains at the bottom of the table, with just two points from five games.
