Madagascar head coach Corentin Martins expressed confidence in his team’s readiness for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations qualifying match against Nigeria’s Super Eagles. The two teams are set to meet on Friday at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo, marking the first matchday of the qualifiers.
Despite historical success favoring Nigeria, with the Super Eagles regarded as favorites due to their strong track record, Madagascar aims to compete vigorously. In their previous five encounters, Madagascar has secured only one victory over Nigeria, which occurred during the group stages of the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
Ahead of the match, Martins emphasized his team’s motivation and preparation. “There’s a lot of motivation. We’re playing against a big African nation, with good players. We’ve prepared well, trying to recover from our long trip. We’re motivated to play well,” he said during a press conference in Uyo on Thursday.
As the Barea looks to improve upon their historical performance, they are focused on achieving a positive result against the Super Eagles.
