Sokoto govt adopts tougher strategy to tackle banditry
SOKOTO, Nigeria — Governor Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto State has unveiled a new security strategy aimed at combating banditry and facilitating the return of displaced residents to their communities. His announcement came during the eighth regular meeting of the State Executive Council held in Sokoto.
Aliyu indicated that the state government has implemented a more robust approach to address the persistent issue of banditry, noting that initial outcomes of this strategy are encouraging. “We are recording tremendous improvement in our fight against banditry in the state, and we will not relent until we make the state safer,” Aliyu stated.
The governor acknowledged that continued collaboration with security agencies has led to more engagements with bandits, resulting in the rescue of kidnapped individuals and the recovery of livestock stolen in the state. He specifically referenced recent actions taken in Rabah, Tureta, and Kebbe Local Government Areas, where security forces successfully engaged bandits, rescued victims, and reclaimed thousands of rustled animals.
Aliyu emphasized that the provision of armored vehicles and other operational equipment will enhance security operations and offer greater protection to rural areas affected by banditry. He assured residents that his administration would persist in supporting security forces with necessary resources to safeguard lives and property.
Moreover, the governor urged residents to collaborate with security personnel and contribute to ongoing efforts to restore lasting peace throughout the state.
