Nigerian Chief of Staff Cleared of Wrongdoing in PFIPC Allegations
LAGOS, Nigeria — Femi Gbajabiamila, Chief of Staff to President Bola Tinubu, announced on Saturday that he has been cleared of any wrongdoing in connection with allegations related to the Presidential Foreign Investment Promotion Council (PFIPC). This announcement was made during the 2026 Gbaja Mega Empowerment Programme in Lagos State.
Gbajabiamila stated that the Nigeria Police Force, the Department of State Services (DSS), and the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) conducted investigations into the allegations, the findings of which he claimed are publicly available.
“At the end of all the investigations, the Nigerian Police, the DSS, and the ICPC cleared me of any wrongdoing,” he said.
The allegations stemmed from accusations made by Adeniyi Adeyemi, the Director-General of the PFIPC. Adeyemi alleged that Gbajabiamila sought a 48 percent kickback from a 27.3 billion naira grant to the council. He also claimed to have transferred 400 million naira to the Chief of Staff through a proxy and asserted that an additional 200 million naira was owed.
In response to the allegations, Adeyemi was arrested and detained but has since been released. Following his release, Gbajabiamila initiated legal action against Adeyemi, citing defamation.
The ongoing developments have heightened scrutiny over the operations of the PFIPC and the individuals involved.
