Hisbah Corps Arrests Eight Men on Allegations of Same-Sex Sexual Acts in Jigawa State
JIGAWA, Nigeria — The Jigawa State Hisbah Corps has detained eight men following allegations of their involvement in same-sex sexual acts with a 22-year-old resident of Kazaure Local Government Area.
Dr. Hussain Yusuf Baban, the Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Corps, confirmed the arrests, which stemmed from a complaint filed by the alleged victim. The young man, who resides in the Kanti area of Kazaure, reported that he had been subjected to sexual acts by nine individuals on multiple occasions.
In his complaint, the individual stated that he had tested positive for HIV, a diagnosis he linked to the alleged encounters, and requested an investigation and justice.
Subsequent to the complaint, the Hisbah Corps initiated an investigation to locate the individuals identified by the complainant. Of the nine suspects named, eight have been apprehended, while efforts to locate the ninth suspect are ongoing.
Preliminary findings suggest that the detained suspects have provided statements indicating their involvement in sexual acts with the complainant. The Hisbah Corps indicated that relevant evidence and information collected during the investigation will be submitted to the courts for further proceedings.
In light of the incident, Baban urged parents to take a more active role in monitoring their children’s relationships and the individuals they associate with. He also called on the public to act with awareness of the potential consequences of their behaviors.
Baban expressed gratitude to the Jigawa State Government for its continued support of the Hisbah Corps in fulfilling its responsibilities.
